Happening in Fulton: Fulton County Breaks Ground on New Executive Airport Customs Facility
Fulton County leaders celebrated the groundbreaking of the new customs facility coming to Fulton County Executive Airport. Hear more from County Manager Richard "Dick" Anderson. More importantly is the benefit of this air facility because it's more than just an air field. It's going to have a fire and rescue unit. It's going to have an extended runway over 1,000 feet allowing large planes to take off and go directly to Europe without having to refuel. That in itself is an economic development engine because corporations want to have access to this kind of facility when they're deciding to relocate to Metro Atlanta. The other thing though is this is only one thing that we're doing on Fulton Industrial Boulevard. We have also made a number of strategic investments taking out live properties that existed, removing crime, now turning those into economic development opportunities, and then with our own investment creating a new animal shelter that truly is world class that's here on Fulton Industrial Boulevard. So all of that work in partnership with the community improvement district, the FAA, GDOT, and others, and of course the approval of our county commissioners means that this is one of most significant economic development investments and ultimately potential that Fulton County has ever made.
