GEORGIA LAW REQUIRES PHOTO IDENTIFICATION TO VOTE

To obtain a Georgia Voter ID Card or Temporary Voter Identification Card (TVIC), free of charge, please note the following:

To receive a Georgia Voter ID Card:

If you do not have an acceptable form of photo ID, you may obtain a FREE Georgia Voter ID card for voting purposes. To qualify, you must meet the following requirements:

  • An individual must not currently possess any credentials issued by the Georgia Department of Driver Services (DDS), including a driver's license or state ID card.
  • If a previously issued DDS license or ID has been lost, stolen, or misplaced, the individual must obtain a replacement directly from DDS.
  • The free voter photo ID is intended solely for individuals who have never been issued DDS identification and is for voting purposes only.
  • The address on your voter ID should match the address on your voter registration information.
  • Your Voter ID will be issued within approximately 2 to 3 weeks following verification.

To receive a voter identification card, the voter must provide:

  • A photo identity document or approved non-photo identity document that includes full legal name and date of birth
  • Documentation showing the voter's date of birth
  • Evidence that the applicant is a registered voter in the State of Georgia
  • Documentation showing the applicant's name and residential address

A Georgia voter identification card shall remain valid so long as a person resides in the same county and remains qualified to vote.

To receive a Temporary Voter Identification Card (TVIC)

A TVIC is a short-term voter ID issued to individuals who do not have an acceptable form of photo IDs required to vote.

  • Is used only for voting purposes only
  • May be provided if you do not have a driver’s license or state-issued ID
  • Is experiencing homelessness or lacks standard documentation
  • Needs a temporary solution while obtaining permanent ID
  • It is not a general identification card (cannot  be used for travel, banking, etc.)
  • Will take approximately 2 to 3 weeks to receive
